CGR Management Consultants conducts supply chain management consulting engagements for its food industry clients. The food supply chain is made up of the "buy, make, move, and sell" processes.

The work CGR does for its clients is focused on achieving fundamental and dramatic breakthroughs in business performance measured by cost, service, quality, and speed. CGR has been successful due to the experience of its consultants in the food service and food processing industries as line operating executives and as partners or senior staff with leading general management consulting firms. CGR's food industry clients include grower cooperatives, food processors, grocery wholesalers and foodservice distributors, supermarket, convenience store, and restaurant chains.

Personal Background:

Peter A. Crosby, has been a founding Principal of CGR Management Consultants since 1984. His food industry operational experience was gained as a division general manager with Collins Foods International. At Collins, he was responsible for sales, customer service, order processing, inventory control, warehousing, traffic, refrigerated fleet transportation, purchasing and information system requirements. Mr. Crosby also has experience on the corporate planning staff of the Food Machinery and Chemical Company (FMC) as a senior operations research analyst.

Mr. Crosby has conducted 250 consulting engagements. Some of the major food industry clients he has served include Nestle/Carnation/Jenny Craig/Powerbar, Starbucks, McDonald's, Smart & Final, Safeway, and Pepsi Food Systems. Recently, Mr. Crosby has worked for high growth start-up companies in the nutritional foods and weight loss businesses, for leading concept convenience store chains such as Sheetz, and for airline foodservice distributors such as Sage Enterprises. Examples of recent food client consulting engagements include:

  • Supply chain strategy formulation and facilitation projects for a series of grocery, foodservice, cash & carry, and mass merchandiser drug chains. An example of results achieved includes the identification of $6 million in annual cost of goods sold reduction from shifting merchandise product flow from direct-store-delivery and wholesaler provision to self and third party distribution.
  • Consolidation, relocation, and expansion of food processing plants and grocery distribution centers. CGR's supply chain model SITELINK was used to evaluate alternative configurations and to identify the least cost product flows and facility locations that meet customer service requirements. SITELINK was developed by CGR for Coca-Cola in the early 1990's.

Mr. Crosby received a Bachelors degree in engineering from the University of California at Berkeley and a Masters in Operations Research from Stanford University and the Stanford Business School. He is a Certified Management Consultant and a member of the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals. Peter writes articles, contributes to books, and delivers speeches on supply chain topics.
