Flavorful Vegan & Soy-Free Dip / Spread (Grocery and Online Retailers)
SITUATION
A startup wanted to create a vegan and soy-free experience to common, staple flavors in the dairy-based dips and spreads category. They were unimpressed by what the market offered in terms of flavor, but further, in terms of ingredient quality and price for those within the vegan/plant-based space.
PROBLEM
The company had already contracted with two independent chef consultants. Despite nearly a year in time and significant funds spent, they were not able to yield a product that stood out in the ways they envisioned, nor one with the confidence for compliance with their rigorous ingredient and nutritional standards.
SOLUTION
A healthy, versatile dip and spread that exceeded the experience of similar products by competitors in the space (both traditional dairy-based and vegan). In addition, it delivered on all Client’s parameters regarding nutritional content, labeling claims, and ingredient standards. This product was designed intentionally without soy for allergen and consumer-perception purposes, and required refrigeration for storage and transport.
BENEFITS
In a period of less than 60 days, we had confirmed a commercially-feasible formula for 2 separate flavors — Original and Chipotle. In the course of less than 1 year, we created an additional 5 flavors. All flavors were able to sustainably sell at a price point $1.00 less than the leading vegan competitor (of equal size). Within the company’s first year, it was selected as the ‘Hero Winner’ in Foxtrot’s Up & Comers competition, where 14 judges reviewed over 1,000 products to find the next great brands in food.
