Situation

Identify nut variation in a snack food to determine the percentage of production below 50% of target level.

Solution

Data from Xbar and Rbar charts was used to develop estimates for ?' for each nut in the product. Distribution charts were created based on the Xbarbar and ?' values, and the percent of product with <50% of the target value could be identified.

Benefits

Based on the data from the distribution charts the production plants were instructed to upgrade the nut feeders.
